CHEAPSKATE, from S.F.'s East Bay, was formed in 1996 by Sean(guitar,vocals), Joe(guitar), and Tony(drums). They recruited Rodger R.(bass) shortly there after. They quickly gained local support as a "skate punk" band, playing any Bay Area club, party, or function they could. It wasn't until 1999 that Cheapskate started playing bigger and better shows when Sammy D. joined in on bass after Rodger's departure. Playing with acts such as Fang, Total Chaos, and D.R.I., they developed a wider fan base. With three demos under their belt, they shopped for labels, only to get a few songs out on various compilations put out by labels such as Beer City Records, and other smaller independent labels. Sammy eventually leaves Cheapskate to pursue The Oozies in 2001. They now find ex- D.R.I. bassist, Chumly, who plays with the band for a brief period, but in that time they had played some good shows. With Chumly gone, they now find Brian, who plays bass for The Resistoleros, and punk legends FANG. Things are finally falling into place, Punkin'head Records releases a discography containing 32 songs from 1996-2001, entitled 'Going to Hell'. They also produce a skate/prank video entitled 'Going to Hell' featuring 'Wee Man' Jason Acuna, and a sound track full of Cheapskate's music. Cheapskate is now moving on, their fan base is strong on the east bay, and hope to pursue a stronger fan following just a little west, to San Fransisco. Playing at clubs such as Bottom of the Hill,and Slim's with bands like The Supersuckers, is only a taste of what they have in store for their future. Now in 2004, Cheapskate intends to keep spreading their infectious sound across the country and gaining more recognition in the process. Their new cd entitled 'Reckless Behavior' is set for release in the summer of 2004.
